Homeland Security Grant Program

The US Department of Homeland Security awards the Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to the States.  The State of Alabama serves as the grantee and Calhoun County then serve as sub-grantee to assist local public safety organizations with reimbursement for approved and awarded projects.  The purpose of the HSGP is to provide funds to eligible entities to support state, local, tribal, and territorial efforts to prevent terrorism and other catastrophic events and to prepare the nation for the threats and hazards that pose the greatest risks to the security of the United States.  Local awards are made on a competitive basis to eligible applicants which include local first responders such as sheriff offices, police department, paid and volunteer fire departments, and emergency management agencies, as well as boards of educations and other eligible local government and public safety entities.
