The Protective Action Equipment Available To You


Protective Action Equipment is now available for residents in the IRZ (Immediate Response Zone) The protective Action Equipment for citizens in the IRZ consists of a shelter-in-place kit and a portable room air cleaner. The IRZ consists of five zones (A-3, A-4, B-3, C-2 and D-2). The shelter-in-place kits and portable room air cleaner will be made available to each household at the CSEPP Distribution and Training Center.
To pick up this equipment, residents of the IRZ will need to come to the CSEPP Distribution and Training Center located at 105 D St. Anniston, AL 36201on designated dates and times.
What to do if you are told to Shelter-In-Place.
In the event of a chemical release, you may be asked to shelter in place. Calhoun County has been divided into zones to better coordinate how to take this protective action. Depending upon which zone you are in, taking shelter could mean something different.
Shelter-In-Place Instructions
Follow the instructions that are given during training at the CSEPP Distribution Center. These will be provided along with your equipment.
Things You Should Know Before Coming To The Center
- Proof of residency is required. Please bring a photo ID, a bill or another document that verifies your correct street address
- Be prepared to spend approximately one hour getting the equipment and receiving complete training on its use.
- If you are unsure whether or not you live in the IRZ or if you have any questions, please call Calhoun County EMA at 256-435-0540 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for assistance.

The hours of operation are Monday thru Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. Appointments available for after hours and on Saturdays.
