Emergency Communications

What is RACES

The Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) is administered by local, county and state emergency management agencies, and supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). It is a part of the Amateur Radio Service that provides radio communications for civil preparedness purposes only, during periods of local, regional or national civil emergencies. These emergencies are not limited to war related activities, but can include natural disasters such as fires, floods and earthquakes.

Calhoun County AL RACES

The Calhoun County RACES is composed of FCC-Licensed Amateur Radio Operators who have voluntarily registered their capabilities and equipment for public service communications duties.

The purpose and responsibility of the Calhoun County RACES is to furnish communications to the Public-Service Agencies of Calhoun County and the general public, in the event of a natural disaster situation, when regular communications fail or are inadequate for a particular situation or overloaded.
